Charles Arthur Popey

Born in 1897 in Spixworth, Norfolk but by 1911 was living in Neatishead where his father worked on a farm. He was taken ill during the Battle of the Somme and died shortly after at Kelling Sanatorium in Norfolk.

    Thank you for publishing. My grandmother was Gladys Marjoram (nee Popey). I remember her telling me about the death of her brother Charles. I remember visiting Neatishead as a child to see Grace Popey who was married to William Popey, Charles’ other sibling.

I note we have your grandmother named as Gladys Maud – this must have come from the census / parish records – but you knew her as Gladys Marjoram – what an unusual name.
